tabanni rescues animals in need and provides them with immediate care, focusing on cases where the animal's life is in danger. tabanni deploys field officers to rescue animals and takes them to veterinary clinics for necessary medical care. After receiving emergency treatment, the animals join a rehab program and are eventually placed for adoption. Fundraising is an ongoing effort to ensure that financial resources are available for rescues.
Our organization also supports individuals who want to help animals by providing advice, support, and logistical assistance.

This includes finding loving homes for our own rescues, pets rescued by individuals, and those who need to be rehomed. We utilize Instagram and Facebook to showcase pets who are in need of a new home. Matching animals to the right home increases the success rate of adoptions and our team carefully reviews cases, considering people's lifestyles, environments, requirements, experience and expectations, as well as the pet's personality and needs.

In response to frequent reports of animal abuse, tabanni has recognized the need for a dedicated department for animal rights. The department's primary goal is to ensure and support the enforcement of existing animal protection laws in Jordan. tabanni serves as an intermediary between witnesses of abuse and the relevant authorities, and works to educate people about their rights and responsibilities as pet owners.
Our team consists of individuals who possess a comprehensive understanding of Jordan's animal protection laws, the related operational procedures of relevant authorities, and possess the ability to assess situations in the field. They also possess strong communication and educational skills. tabanni believes that dialogue is the strongest initial approach to resolving issues through peaceful means. Only when dialogue fails, does the tabanni team involves the appropriate authorities.
The team operates by either directly adopting a case and working towards its resolution or by providing guidance and advice to community members seeking assistance. Ultimately, tabanni's mission is to ensure that animal rights are upheld and protected in Jordan.
In addition to rescue cases, tabanni also focuses on stray care. In these cases, animals are returned to their original environment after receiving the necessary medical attention. If that environment is unsafe, the animals are relocated to a safer location where residents are willing and able to meet their basic needs. All animals in the stray care program are vaccinated and spayed/neutered before being returned.
To help identify treated animals from a distance—and avoid trapping or relocating them again by mistake—dogs in the program wear a visible yellow tag on their left ear, while cats have the tip of their left ear gently clipped. These markers are essential to managing and protecting the stray population effectively and humanely.
tabanni's decision to expand the stray care program was driven by the challenges of finding homes for rescued animals. Due to difficulties in finding foster homes and adopters, rescued animals often end up in boarding facilities for extended periods, which is costly and not ideal for these animal's well-being. To promote a world where animals and humans coexist harmoniously, our organization decided to focus on enhancing the animals' native habitats and ensure that they receive medical care. tabanni's approach aims to improve these animal's quality of life while preserving their freedom as animals.
tabanni also has a program aimed at reducing the abuse suffered by stray dogs in Amman. The program focuses on creating safe environments for stray dogs while also controlling their population.
The sad reality is that many people in and around the city are unwilling to coexist with stray dogs, resulting in acts of mass shootings, poisoning, and other forms of abuse. While the long-term goal is to achieve harmonious cohabitation within the community, tabbani's immediate focus is on addressing the direct threats faced by stray dogs in certain areas.
The Stray Dog Communities Program seeks to establish outdoor havens where compassionate individuals can regularly provide food and water, monitor the dogs' well-being, and report any medical issues to our organization. Dogs in these areas are vaccinated and spayed/neutered, and the havens also serve as relocation sites for stray dogs from our Stray Care Program who cannot be returned to their original locations due to safety concerns. Additionally, the dogs receive regular parasite treatment and shelters are equipped to protect them from harsh weather. tabanni also provides dog food and water for the animals. All dogs under tabanni's Stray Dog Communities Program are also ear tagged to indicate they have been sterilized and vaccinated.
Our rescued animals often require a period of rehabilitation where we focus on their physical, psychological, and behavioral needs to prepare them for a successful adoption.
During this crucial phase, we provide comprehensive care, addressing issues such as anxiety, socialization, nipping, and fearfulness that may hinder their adoption prospects.
The rehabilitation program incurs significant expenses, particularly for boarding, but it remains a vital component of our work, significantly enhancing the adoption success rate of our rescues. Furthermore, we find immense joy in this process, as spending time with and aiding in the recovery of these animals is truly fulfilling.
If you're eager to be part of this rewarding experience, consider volunteering in our rehabilitation program by fostering – it's an opportunity you won't want to miss!
The Basboos Project is a community-based TNR (trap-neuter-return) initiative in Amman. Anyone interested in taking care of their neighbourhood cats can join. By joining, you will receive free TNR training, get access to high-quality trapping equipment, and benefit from the TNR packages negotiated with the project's veterinary partners. The Basboos Project was founded in 2018 by Nina Logan Smith, and transferred first to tabanni then officially to JSAP when Nina left the country in Sep. 2020. All cats that have been TNRed have a tipped left ear, indicating they have been sterilized and vaccinated.
